Interventional Imaging Contrast

Lipiodol® Ultra Fluid

Oil Based, High Density Contrast for Diagnostic & Interventional Imaging

Lipiodol Ultra Fluid is an iodinated, water insoluble contrast medium supplied as a 10 mL glass ampoule. Its unique oily nature provides durable opacification and selective retention, making it indispensable in procedures that demand long lasting visibility—such as lymphography, hysterosalpingography (HSG) and trans arterial chemo embolisation (TACE) of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Key Uses & Clinical Value
  • Diagnostic Radiology: Lymphography, Hysterosalpingography, Sialography, Ascending urethrography, Fistulo/abscess tract studies, Frontal sinus exploration, Pre & post operative cholangiography. Provides durable, high contrast opacification—especially useful where slow drainage is expected.
  • Interventional Radiology: Selective intra arterial localisation of liver lesions on CT, Vector & carrier during cTACE for intermediate stage HCC, Mixed with glue for AVM/aneurysm embolisation, Diagnostic hepatic artery injection when spiral CT is impractical. Acts as viscous, radiopaque marker that remains in target tissue, guiding therapy and follow up imaging.
  • Women's Health: Only oil based agent authorised for HSG in infertility work up. Smooth, visible column helps assess tubal patency and may improve fertility outcomes post flush.
Administration Highlights
  • Route & Rate: Slow manual injection or catheter delivery with glass syringe/compatible device.
  • Typical Volumes: Adapt to examination type, patient size and vascular territory.
  • Elimination: Predominantly hepatic & lymphatic; long retention supports follow up imaging but also necessitates dose limits.
Safety Essentials
  • Contraindications: hypersensitivity to iodinated media, manifest hyperthyroidism, acute pelvic inflammation or pregnancy for HSG, active bleeding/trauma, bronchography, dilated bile ducts without drainage, decompensated cirrhosis for TACE.
  • Dose Related Adverse Events: pulmonary or cerebral embolism, biliary toxicity, hypersensitivity; keep dosage low and monitor in high risk patients.
  • Thyroid Caution: may saturate thyroid for months; screen function before use in lymphography.
Why Choose Lipiodol® Ultra Fluid?
  • Long lasting opacification: in vessels, lymphatics and tumour nodules—ideal for procedures requiring delayed imaging.
  • Proven performance in cTACE: visualises, localises and delivers chemotherapeutic emulsions to HCC with reliable radiographic follow up.
  • Only oil based option for HSG: clear tubal delineation plus established fertility enhancement benefit.
  • Versatility across specialties: from interventional oncology to complex fistulography, all with a single formulation.
  • Decades of clinical experience: & extensive regulatory approvals underpin a well understood safety profile and practical dosing guidance.

Lipiodol Ultra Fluid remains the benchmark oil based contrast agent—providing interventional radiologists, oncologists and women's health specialists with a dependable tool for demanding diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
